Happy Halloweek 2019: Let's Keep Trick or Treating Alive!

Image
Hi Ghouls and Goblins,

Let's start of by saying how incredibly tacky I felt with that opening, but I'm attempting to make this week all about Halloween. As a lover of all things spooky it comes as no surprise that this is my favourite time of the year.

13 Things To Make Life Easier During A Power Outage

Image
At the beginning of September, I spent 6 days without power. Hurricane Dorian made his way through Atlantic Canada and took our electricity out with him. Luckily everyone in my area was safe and only minor damage had been done to the neighbourhood.

One Blogger's Review: David's Tea Frosted Cereal

Image
One of my weaknesses in life is a hot cup of David's Tea. When I ordered my latest haul of tea I was in the mood for a nostalgic taste to take me back to my childhood. I wanted something that would remind me of my favourite goodies growing up, but without all the sugar. When I noticed they had a new flavour this season called Frosted Cereal my curiosity got the better of me.

Frosted Cereal, a tea which David's Tea describes as similar to "crave-worthy milk at the bottom of your cereal bowl." This sounded like the perfect choice for treating my taste buds to a blast from the past.

Shake Up Your Eyeshadow Routine With Coastal Scents

Image
Your eyes are usually the first thing a person notices when they meet you. Some would say they are the window to your soul. As far as my makeup routine goes, my eyes are the area in which I allow myself the most room to play around and experiment with colour. Normally I prefer neutral shades such as tans/gold or pale pinks/peaches for my everyday eyeshadow looks. Every once in a while I like to throw in some brighter and bolder colours. Even though these bold colours can be a lot of fun to play around with, if they aren't used correctly my end results can look a little clownish.

6 Simple Tricks To Make Your Home Smell Amazing

Image
I can make a pretty safe bet that if you are no longer a rebellious teenager living with your parents than you probably have no desire to sit around a messy room. Even though I am not always the tidiest person, I still strive to keep my home in a liveable condition. I also love to have scented candles and sprays to keep my house smelling good at all times. The only trouble with those is that they can be costly and contain chemicals that can be harsh for some people's lungs.

According to Statista the average Canadian works 35-40 hours per week. On top of that a lot of people have some sort of side hustle going on to make ends meet, a family to take care of, or even extra classes in the evening.  Any of these situations could be yours and you may not have the time to keep the house as organized as you want.

Budget Friendly Ways To Kill Fleas (That Actually Work)

Image
Many pet owners have experienced the battle of fleas once the warm weather has arrived. It seems like the hotter the summer, the more tedious the fleas are. Killing fleas can be a hectic chore, and it can also cost a fortune trying out different methods until you find one that works.
Now I want to start off by letting you guys know I am not affiliated with any product I mention in this post. I am sharing these tips with you because I have dealt with flea infestations before and know how irritating it can be. Everything that I talk about today has been based on my own experience dealing with fleas.
If you ever google "How to get rid of fleas" you will find countless solutions and if you're not sure which one to go for you will end up wasting so much money trying to find the right solution. Trying out the wrong methods also gives the fleas in your home more time to multiply. Yuck! Today I am going to point you in the right direction so you can get get rid of those pests…

73 Questions: A Blogger Parody

Image
Have you seen any of those Vogue's 73 Questions videos yet? The ones where an interviewer meets up with a celebrity at their home and asks a series of quick questions. (Check them out on Youtube if you haven't)

The blogging community has come up with their own version of 73 Questions which seems like a fantastic way to get to know more about your favourite bloggers.

I was tagged by Charli from Life With Charli to play along. If you're looking for another lifestyle blogger to follow I would definitely recommend checking her work out. She's an excellent writer with some informative posts.

So, here we go...

What To Do When Your Blog Link Gets Banned On Twitter

Image
Here's the situation, you have just finished a blog post and try to share it on Twitter only to recieve the message "Failed to load tweet".
So you check your Twitter app and see that there is no problem sending other tweets or replying to accounts that you follow. Once again you try to tweet the link to your blog and recieve the same "Failed to load tweet" message.
Twitter can be one of the best social media platforms to market your blog on if you use it right. Using hashtags such as #blogger and #bloggerstribe as well as sharing your link on Blog Train Threads (when a user asks for people to share the links to their latest posts in the comments section) can drive a lot of traffic to your webpage. Not being able to tweet the link to your webpage can be very frustrating, especially as you watch your daily views go down.

Sweet & Tangy Cucumber Mojito

Image
After what felt like the longest winter of my life I can happily say that summer is finally here. There are a few things that are essential for every summer season such as fun prints, the scent of barbecue in every neighborhood, a playlist made specifically to give you island vibes and of course a refreshing cocktail (or mocktails) to cool off with.

I am a huge fan of mojitos. The lime and the mint mix surprising well together. I always thought the combination would be disgusting until I actually gave it a try. Now I have a mint plant in my garden so I can have fresh mint on hand whenever I want to have one.

The No Makeup Challenge

Image
One night, a few weeks ago, I stayed up way past my bedtime binge-watching The Good Place (Netflix, if you see this we're ready for 3rd season already!). Needless to say, the next morning I was not ready to wake up when my alarm went off. Late nights have never treated me well, I feel out of sorts the next day if I don't get an adequate amount of sleep. Some people are able to get by on 4 hours of sleep and function at a normal pace. I am most definitely not one of those people.

Every morning when I wake up, before I start getting ready I have a cup of coffee and check my phone to catch up on current events. That's my pre-morning preparation break and it's mandatory if you expect me to function at work for the day.

Elusive Darlings: My First Channillo Series

Image
As an avid reader I have grown to love the idea of ebooks. A few years ago that was something I never thought I would say. It is hard to beat the feeling of being the first one to crack open the pages of a new book. Oh, and that smell. Don't get me started on how amazing the smell of new books are.

I live in a community on the outskirts of a really small town surrounded by other small towns. If I want a specific book I either have to travel about an hour or order it online and wait. One of the perks about ebooks is that I can start reading as soon as I order the book.

My impatience isn't my main reason for loving ebooks though. The websites that sell ebooks are giving independent writers who can not afford to publish their work in hard copies a chance to publish their work online and sell it at a fair price. There are actually a lot more book options in the world of ebooks as well.

I Was Nominated For The Blogger Recognition Award

Image
How cool is that? I mean, I've only been working on this blog for a few months. When I first started I thought it would be amazing if even 10 people saw my blog. I was not expecting this page to introduce me to a community full of such friendly and talented people.

I was nominated for the Blogger Recognition Award by Deborah who runs Deb's Decorative Life a lifestyle blog that strives to help make your home a better place. She has great tips and advice for keeping your house together, even during those times you're too busy to function. Thankyou Deborah, you are a wonderful person.

I started the blogging journey because I love to write. What can I say? It was my main motivation in starting this page. My blog is a place where I can do just that, but also share information with you guys.

What advice can I give new bloggers?

1: Read as many posts as you can about starting a blog, but avoid ones with titles like "How I Made $500 My First Month Blogging" or anything …

Make The Best of Your May

Image
Hi everyone! I have had a bit of a hiatus on here, but I have been working on some spring and summer related projects that I can't wait to share with you guys over the next few weeks. Until then I am going to enjoy the air warming up and appreciate all this rain getting the gardens prepared for growing season.

Why You Need To Start A Herb Garden This Summer

Image
With the beginning of planting season just around the corner I have been thinking about expanding the herb section of my garden. Herb plants can be a beautiful addition to your garden, but there are so many other reasons you should be planting some this year.

Everything I Learned My First Year Growing Vegetables

Image
Last year my boyfriend and I started the year off by moving out of a small apartment into our first home. We were faced with so many projects to make this place our own, and once spring arrived the one I was most excited about was making my own vegetable garden. The idea of growing my own food fascinated me. At that point in my life the only food I had ever grown was a propagated tomato plant, and I only ended up with 3 tomatoes on that plant! I wouldn't say that counts, even though it was better than nothing.

The Frosted Pineapple's Guide To Luxury Beauty On A Dime

When it comes to cosmetics the majority of the girls I grew up with (including myself) started with those value pack bundles that come out around Christmas time in all the department stores. You know the ones I mean. For $20 you get all the goods. Every colour of eyeshadow, all those blushes, lipsticks and nail polishes. Some even came with those little sponge brushes. When I grew up they were basically every preteen girl's beauty starter pack.

Workout Tips For Beginners: Post Workout Pain Relief

One thing I am completely guilty of is taking long extended breaks between workouts. I mean like 2-3 month vacation style breaks. What can I say? My couch is so much more inviting than my treadmill.

10 Kitchen Gadgets Under $10 You Didn't Know You Needed

Nothing speaks to me like comfort food. A nice hot meal on a cool rainy day. Those frozen meals just don't cut it. I need a meal made with fresh ingredients to keep me happy.

Celebrity Inspired Spring Fashion on a Budget

Image
Spring has finally made it. The sun is shining brighter, the air is warming up, and we're all ready to say goodbye to those bitter cold winter storms for good. All I really want to do right now is lounge around in a bathing suit, soak up the sun, and drink from a coconut.

DIY Fabric Spray Recipe

It's almost time for spring to step it's foot through the door. Already the air is getting milder, the snow is starting to melt away, and the sun is shining a little brighter. It feels as though spring is already here.

A DIY Tutorial: Cinnamon Lip Plumping Scrub

Image
Let's talk about lips. Full, plump, smooth lips that can wear any lipstick colour like a second skin. I love the look of bold colourful lipstick, but if your lips aren't perfectly smooth it will look cracked and messy.

Are They Worth It? Lush Secret Arts Jelly Bomb

Image
Yesterday I had the day booked off of work so I could take a day trip to Halifax and do a bit of shopping before going to a concert in the evening. As we're passing through the mall all I notice is this amazing floral smell, so I follow my nose and wind up at Lush.

Morning Habits For a Productive Day

Image
I love sleeping almost as much as I loathe the sound of my alarm clock. The temptation to hit snooze and go back to sleep until it's time to leave for work is all too real. Why is it that my bed always feels a million times better first thing in the morning than it does at night?

I could easily lay around in bed until the last possible second. It's way too easy, but giving myself the bare minimal amount of time to get prepared for the day is just going to stress me out. If you start the day off on the wrong foot there's a good chance the rest of the day will follow in those footsteps.

Instagram Backdrops You Already Own

Image
Do you ever open up Instagram and see an account showing off their shopping loot and it looks picture perfect like a page from a magazine? The perfect Instagram pic. The next time you go out shopping you remember that picture, so when you get home you arrange all your goodies on the table and take a few snaps! You take a look at your pics and all you see is a pile on the table. What gives?

Moving into a new place is a huge stepping stone in life, especially when it's your own place. There's so much to learn and experience on this journey. It can be a mixture of joy, excitement, exhaustion and stress all wrapped up in one.

No Sleep? No problem. How to Stay Awake at Work.

Image
Last night was awful. My partner came down with a fever and chest infection so he was tossing and turning all night and my cats decided to get into a fight right outside the bedroom door. Needless to say I didn't get any sleep and to top it off I already knew I had a busy morning ahead of me at work.

Grandma's Life Hacks

Image
There are two things that always stick out to me about my grandmother's place when I visit. One is that everything she owns is in immaculate condition, the coffee table looks exactly the same as it did back in 1982 when she bought it. At least that's when she claims she bought it!

8 Things To Do On Sunday So You Feel Refreshed For Monday

One simple joy in life is a lazy Sunday. There's no alarm to wake me up from my cozy slumber. There's time to make an indulgent breakfast with all the fixings. There's no rush which makes it the perfect day for self rejuvenation.

The Best Natural Remedy For Cleansing Pores

Image
I can't deny that I am guilty of quite a few not-so-skin-friendly habits. I love to wear makeup, especially highlighter on my cheekbones (and everywhere else because a girl needs to shine!) and liquid lipsticks (which tend to clog pores around the lips like crazy).

15 Natural Ingredients For Flawless Skin

Home remedies are amazing for two particular reasons:

1. They're safe and use natural ingredients.  2. They're incredibly budget friendly.
